    Jamie Lapin, CFP®, CDFA®

    Private Wealth Advisor

Jamie has spent her career on the cutting edge of the financial services industry. One of the first advisors to earn the Certified Financial Planner designation, she’s been helping clients make rational and responsible financial decisions for many years. Jamie knows first hand that a financial plan includes much more than a portfolio: in the “sandwich generation” the physical and emotional health of a family can have profound financial consequences.

Jamie’s certification in divorce financial planning (CDFA), mediation, and deep study of behavioral economics allows her to come to the table understanding that money is both a tool and a metaphor. Our decisions are never just about numbers but about our relationship to money, to our families, and our own history. Her unique ability to help clients get to the right questions allows her to tailor a financial strategy for each client’s particular goals, challenges, and values.

Jamie has roots here in D.C. and currently resides in Chevy Chase, MD. She has two adult children, as well as three trilingual grandsons (English, German and baby) and a grand-dog. She’s an expert Scrabble player and you can frequently find her in the Theaters on the weekends.

Retiring from a career in federal service means facing more questions and complexities than the average retirement.

What sounds like government jargon to others, I work with every day. I understand intimately just how your FERS benefits drive the foundation of your financial security in retirement, creating a ripple effect well beyond your service years. At RMG Advisors, I lead our team of planners in helping you navigate the financial and personal choices faced throughout retirement.

Getting it right is critical, requiring a deeper understanding than run-of-the-mill financial planning knowledge offers. For context, around 30% of financial advisors achieve the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation, which involves one of the industry’s most rigorous testing and ongoing education requirements. Roughly half are true, fee-only (commission-free) advisors. Fewer still are also Chartered Federal Employee Benefits Consultant℠ (ChFEBC℠) professionals who understand how FERS integrates with a complete financial plan.

That’s the intersection where I specialize. I stay at the forefront of advanced planning strategies for dedicated, career-driven federal employees like you. I’ve spent years presenting at federal agencies as a dedicated retirement and FERS benefits advisor. While those in-agency days are behind me, I still contribute as a monthly guest on the Federal News Network radio and publish regularly on my YouTube Channel.

My work on federal retirement concepts has also appeared in Bloomberg, WTOP, Federal News Network, FedSmith, FEDWeek, MyFederalRetirement, Military Times, Federal Times, and other outlets.

    If I weren’t an advisor, I’d open a restaurant.

Quite handy, but regret saying ‘how hard could that be’ every time.

I spent 20 years in federal service myself and I’ve been in your shoes. I was at OPM for 15 years where I led retirement service modernization initiatives. Now I serve federal retirees directly as an advisor. My background uniquely positions me and allows me to blend my knowledge about the FERS retirement system and advanced financial planning to help clients make better financial decisions. I loved my time in service, but I love even more getting to help the federal community and former colleagues.
